Demand Media - The Algorithm for Profitable Video Content

I've just enjoyed reading an article about Demand Media, a company that has developed an algorithm to identify profitable topics for video content, which it then outsources at low cost to an army of freelancers. The traditional content model of using editors to decide on content is now under threat from algorithms which can identify where the demand is and whether this demand can be capitalised upon. As someone comments in the article, content is now undergoing the same data-driven transformation as traditional advertising did with PPC etc a few years ago. The article is well worth a read.
